Christina Schütt was recently on our Summer Dual Lodge Safari at Seal River Heritage Lodge and Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge, and posted the following review and photos in the Churchill Wild’s Women Travel Group on Facebook. This certainly bodes well for our Fall Dual Lodge Safari in October 13-23!
Christina Schütt talks about her Summer Dual Lodge Safari in Churchill Wild’s Women Travel Group
To all the amazing women here in this group, it is so much worth it! I just came back from the Summer Dual Lodge Safari and it was breathtaking.
Polar bears delighted us with their presence both at Seal River and Nanuk. I saw an incredible amount of three groups of mother bears with their two cubs each in one day. When even the guides get excited, you know something really special is happening.
Our group was extremely lucky to grab a wonderful day for the Beluga-Zodiac adventure (well, after being hit by a short but intense rain shower on the way onto the bay…, but the clothes provided were excellent and kept me dry).
At Nanuk the wildlife / vegetation is more diverse, so we were also blessed with a bald eagle and a younger one flying directly above us. Black bears and the first snow geese also showed up. However, wolves and moose eluded us. Whereas the first excellent northern lights of the season showed up and filled my heart with joy.
The lodges are excellent, the staff accommodating and friendly, the chefs provided us with really delicious soul food. Also if you eat vegan, no worries at all. The alternatives the chefs prepared (also for gluten free diet) were really good and varied.
What you don’t need to bring: walking shoes / hiking boots – you will want to wear the provided rubber boots, when going outside!
If you are adventurous and like to swim, you might want to pack some swimwear to dip into Hudson Bay (I did and it was amazing; temperatures similar to the North Sea).
Also, a bug jacket, a hat with a brim and a tube scarf are helpful accessories.
Dana MacLean MacDonald thanks for your help and answering my many questions upfront!
