Safari Overview

Some journeys demand twice the wonder. On the Summer Dual Lodge Safari, eleven extraordinary days unfold across two of the Arctic’s most compelling realms, each offering its own perspective on the brief, brilliant season when Hudson Bay shrugs off its icy mantle and bursts into life.

Your adventure begins with four nights at Seal River Heritage Lodge, where polar bears fresh from their hunting season roam the coast in their brightest summer whites. Here, ground-level encounters with these magnificent creatures set the stage for your northern immersion. Below the surface, thousands of beluga whales transform the Seal River estuary into nature’s amphitheater. Glide among them by zodiac, their haunting songs carried through hydrophones like whispers from another world, their curious eyes meeting yours with startling intelligence.

Then comes a breathtaking 90-minute flight south, soaring over York Factory where centuries of northern history lie etched in the landscape. At Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge, a completely different drama unfolds. Here, where the boreal forest meets the wild coast, polar bears share the stage with wolves hidden on the forest edges, while black bears and moose emerge from the treeline to complete nature’s grandest cast.

Each lodge offers its own unique perspective on the season’s transformation, complemented by tundra-inspired cuisine and evening presentations that deepen your understanding of this complex ecosystem. Our specialized tundra vehicles and expert guides ensure intimate wildlife encounters at both locations, each day building on the last to create a comprehensive portrait of the North.

Though summer sunlight seems endless here, clear nights might reward you with the first shimmering hints of aurora borealis – a reminder that in the Arctic, nature’s most spectacular moments come to those who venture deep into its embrace.

Seal River Heritage Lodge

60 KM NORTH OF CHURCHILL BY PLANE

59° 09’ 09.87” N / 94° 46’ 54.87 “ W

Perched on the rugged coast of Hudson Bay lies Seal River Heritage Lodge. Located near the Seal River Estuary, this Lodge is in a prime location for observing polar bears as they wander the coast during summer and fall waiting for the Bay to freeze and viewing beluga whales in July and August.

The fenced-in compound, viewing platforms and tower lend themselves to unique photography opportunities for northern lights and the wildlife that approach to check out the sights, sounds and smells of the Lodge.

Accommodations are eight, double guest rooms each with an en-suite bathroom. The guest wing is away from the lounge and dining room allowing you to enjoy quiet time as needed.

Our cozy lounge, complete with fireplace, is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine, sharing photos or talking with new friends.

Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge

57° 07’ 22.4” N / 91° 39’ 52.0” W

Situated next to pristine Arctic waters on Hudson Bay with Canada’s Boreal Forest as its backyard sits Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge. The diverse ecosystem surrounding Nanuk is home to Canadian icons such as polar bears, black bears, wolves, and moose.

From the safety of the fence surrounding the Lodge, view the northern lights or get up-close-and-personal with the polar bears and other wildlife that meander past, as curious about you as you are about them.

The eight guestrooms with en-suite bathrooms are housed in two guest wings connected to the main dining room/lounge area, each with cozy sitting areas overlooking the Bay. After a long day trekking the tundra, kick back in our lounge and enjoy an informative presentation by our guides or simply relax and enjoy conversations with new friends.

Note that due to EXTREME weather conditions (i.e. very low temperatures) there may be times when it’s difficult to maintain running water under the mid-winter conditions. There will be no laundry facilities.

Since I was a little girl, I have dreamt of seeing a polar bear in the wild where he is king of his domain. This dream was possible because of your love, passion and dedication to the North and your work. From the bottom of my heart and the little girl who lives within it, I thank you for this amazing experience. It was a privilege and honor to be able to walk among them in their natural habitat brought tears of joy to my eyes. We will always cherish our memories and are delighted to have had the pleasure of meeting you all.

We have not been to a more mystical, magical place. The wildlife always surprised us. Around every turn was something special. The dining was super. We were very blessed to be able to join you here for just a very short time but will always be a special memory for us. The guides, Andy, Terry and Kelly were so full of wonderful antidotes, it brought the place to life. Thank you.

Paula & Allan W.

Cannot rate this highly enough. 'Excellent' doesn't come close. Absolutely everything was brilliant. Dealing with Churchill Wild was personal and professional. Getting to and staying at the lodge was faultless. Superb location, excellent accommodation, great food, helpful staff, and brilliant guides all contributed to this being a once in a lifetime experience I will remember forever. Saw polar bears every day, some at a distance, others within metres. Awe inspiring.
