Here we go again, the start of another polar bear watching season at Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge! And we’re more ready than ever to start the season!

The camp looks amazing, but we’ve been saying that all week, after finishing up things like the tongue and groove paneling on the walls, installing the new range hood, and finishing up all the tin work and fascia. All things we just never seemed to get to before. Trails have all been dragged and benches built at some favorite lunch spots, along with rocky fire pits, and knock on a big piece of wood, the bear numbers have been incredible over the past week.

We had 10 bears on a two-hour staff tour to the east yesterday and once again I think this year will be excellent for cubs. Every time we have left the lodge we’ve seen at least one set of cubs and right now we have a mom and two cubs on the island that we can watch nurse from the scope.

A mom and two cubs have also been active in the sets of black bears visiting daily, and we’ve had four different wolves here for the last week. Rose has made sure the pilot knows about all the wildlife activity, so that he can do a loop for the guests and provide photo opportunities. Hundreds of caribou have been frolicking in the water up north of the Nelson River, just trying to keep the bugs out of their noses!

The wolves have also figured out that there are lots of baby ducks on the runway, so they have been snacking regularly, and the baby black bears in the big tree have been a staff favorite.

Once again, thanks to all of you out there that helped us get this done again!
